The Consumer Spending Index (CSI) Switzerland grew by 2% in July 2025 compared to the same month in the previous year. The increase was broad-based across Swiss regions and driven by higher spending in the category Retail: Food, beverage, tobacco (+5.7%).
Ticino experienced exceptionally large spending growth (+4.1%), particularly in the categories Retail: Food, beverage, tobacco (+10.5%), Food and beverage services (+7.8%), and Accommodation (+10.4%), indicating a strong holiday season.
Consumer expenditures in e-commerce also grew significantly (+9.4%).
Zurich was the only region to experience slightly lower levels of consumer spending compared to the previous year (-1.8%).

Consumer Spending Index (CSI) Switzerland
The CSI Switzerland is a joint initiative of the University of St.Gallen and its research partner Worldline Switzerland AG. The high-frequency index is granular across regions and broad product categories and allows for a consistent analysis over multiple years. It is updated monthly.
