The Consumer Spending Index (CSI) Switzerland increased by 4.2% in July 2026 compared to the same month in the previous year.
After moderating in June, expenditures in the category Retail: Fuel stations rose sharply again (+18.0%), particularly in Eastern (+22.5%) and Northwestern (+20.2%) Switzerland. Expenditures in Retail: Food, beverage, tobacco also continued to grow strongly (+7.5%), while spending in the remaining retail categories was similar to the previous year.
Expenditures in Accommodation returned to growth (+1.8%) after the decline in June, with continued large regional differences: spending rose in Eastern Switzerland (+11.5%) and in Espace Mittelland (+6.0%), whereas it declined further in Zurich (-27.1%) and Northwestern Switzerland (-21.1%). As in previous months, spending on Accommodation via E-commerce increased significantly (+20.4%).
