The Consumer Spending Index (CSI) Switzerland increased by 2.3% in April 2026 compared to the same month in the previous year.
As in March, the growth was driven by higher expenditures in the category Retail: Fuel stations (+16.1%), particularly in northwestern (+22.4%) and eastern (+21.2%) Switzerland. Expenditures rose by 3.3% in Food and beverage services and by 2.7% in Retail: Food, beverage, tobacco.
The steepest decline was recorded in Accommodation (-2.7%), with marked regional differences for expenditure growth at the point of sale: expenditures fell most in Zurich (-18.9%) and northwestern Switzerland (-16.0%), whereas Ticino posted an increase of 17.7%.
